Searching for their first win of the season, Taunton CS A took a trip to play Yeovil and Sherbourne C. With only a couple of changes, the team was looking to retain a lot of the experience from the first game. As with the previous week, Taunton CS took an early lead, this time with a goal from Bill Horner. With some clean passing and strong performances across the team, the away side looked good from off.
However, Yeovil did begin to settle into their rhythm and began to apply pressure at the front. Largely the Taunton defence was adequate to the task, but they did give away a couple of short corners. Julian Brown in particular enjoyed a sterling game as left back. Still, before half time, the home side did score a goal, beating keeper Mike Whitman low to the stick side.
After half time, play continued back and forth, but a series of insightful passes and individual skill saw Taunton take a 3-1 lead. Sam Woodland completed a fantastic finish on a narrow angle before combining with Curtis Bradley moments later with a lovely criss cross passing sequence within the D.
On the back foot, Yeovil struggled to respond but did manage to capitalise on a defensive error. As the ball traversed across the face of the goal, an attacking stick was able to connect and find the net. Almost before Taunton could catch their breath, Yeovil attacked again. In a press of bodies, the umpire lost sight of the ball and claiming that the goalie was lying on it, awarded a penalty flick.
Equal at 3 all, both teams pushed for the winner. Taunton captain Andy Carter demonstrated his cool as he took a long pass and retained possession until Sam Woodland could get into position for the winning goal. Yeovil made several attempts to score a last minute equaliser but the visitors were equal to the task.
Final score 4 - 3 to Taunton CS. Sam Woodland was awarded man of the match.
