Woody and Horner bag two while Whitman seems impenetrable.

Yet another away trip for TCS A as Heathfield becomes a distant memory - 3 more weeks until the first home league game. The game started in a bitty fashion with TCS have the more positive opening attacking chances. Woody looked in form but the goal was eluding him in the first half and as frustration mounted East Devon sprang some strong counter attacks. The TCS defence was professionally marshalled by the experienced stick of Julian Brown who managed to contain any threat posed in the first half with the support of Karl Patrick, Evan Tarr and Jamie Everett.

Eventually the deadlock was broken by Andy Carter. Following a mazy run from Curtis 'Balboa' Bradley in which he considered passing the ball on no more than no occasions he eventually found a foot and won a set piece 5 yards from the East Devon 'D'. Andy Carter took the ball and noticed that all East Devon players clearly recognised the potential he had - as they decided to leave him 10 yards on all sides to do what he wanted. The ball was touched into the 'D' and rifled into the back of the net to ease the nerves and start the road to victory.

Later in the first half the ball broke to Joe Wadden who used perfect touch to pick out Bill Horner who continued to show you don't truly need a headband to chllange for top goalscorer in the seconds, and slotted the ball home cooly. The first half ended with the visitors two goals to the good but not before TCS keeper Mike Whitman decided that life was not interesting enough in goal and made the choice to slide out (at a ball that frankly could have been kicked) and hit the ball straight to the on-rushing attacker. Fortunately that attacker displayed even less stick skill and allowed the defence to clear successfully.

Although very rushed due to Devon time keeping the half time team talk was powerful, deep and awe inspiring.

The second half began with East Devon applying pressure to the TCS defence but they stood resolute and Whitman's goal remained unpenetrated. As the half went on the aging Devon squad began to tire and TCS capitalised with some fantastic link up play and a through ball from the skipper found Woody and with the slightest of touches he nudged past the keeper to make the score 0-3. With a sense of deja-vu the same through ball found Woody again in acres of space and although he played a passing game with the keeper he did eventually put the ball in. 0-4.

The final goal of the game was scored from a well worked short corner as Jamie Everett calmly played the ball to a waiting Bill Horner at the near post who smash the ball in with the assistance of a helpless defender stranded on the line. A fantastic performance was capped when Curtis 'Balboa' Bradley showed how much he was dearly missing our absent commrade Angry Dan (still currently serving his suspension) when he got all emotional with one of the East Devon midfielders. Balboa picked himself up form a coming together puffed out every inch of chest he could muster and squared up. Fortunately before he could get humiliated (possibly) Julian Brown stepped in to give Balboa a much needed cuddle before skipper Andy Carter removed him from the field.

All in all a great performance from TCS which sees them move up the table and take great steps towards becoming a more cohesive unit. Skipper Andy Carter won man of the match with a goal and two assists closely followed by Bill Horner and Woody. A contest for DOTD emerged between Mike Whitman, Balboa and Julian Brown (although the reasons why were in no way hockey related) and Julian won so the jacket transfers to him for the week.
