Tough game but TCS run out comfortable winners.

The pitch was frozen solid but the game started at a searing pace with TCS winning quick short corners and applying lots of early pressure to the Yeovil goal. One short corner led to a fine edge around the post from the Yeovil captain stopping an almost certain goal for TCS skipper Carter. The half played out in much the same way with a great deal of pressure applied to the Yeovil goal but no final product. The closest TCS came was a weak effort made to look good as the Yeovil keeper deflected a shot onto the post but eventually the half time whistle sounded with the score at an entertaining 0 - 0.

The second half began brightly with skipper Carter taking up the uncommon position of central defender while Jules Brown had a little lie down (first game back in a while). The goals started coming with a fine lone effort from Curt 'Martina' Bradley trickling through the Yeovil team like a salmon up a stream (constantly struggling at every obstacle). Eventually after covering half the pitch without a thought to pass or even look up Martina realised he was in the D and had better try a shot which trundled past the keeper in the same weak fashion and the run commanded.

What followed was a relentless lesson in attacking hockey as Pete Wintrip and Sam Woodland took apart the Yeovil defence. A well worked goal started Woody back on the path of goals and he seemed to thoroughly enjoy the moment celebrating like it was his first. The third goal followed some great build up play starting with a fantastic ball out from Alex Bartram. Martina Bradley found more space on the edge of the D and picked out a fine pass to Jack Daly - I'm being nice but I think Jack may have poached a goal here - who finished off perfectly from 5 cm out.

The final goal was scored after a brilliant counter attack from a goal line save from Jules Brown (none of us expected that but it's true). The ball finally found its way to Pete Wintrip who unselfishly gifted Woody his second goal of the game. All round a great performance from the team and a solid start to the new year. A clean sheet for Mike Whitman and a man of the match performance from Pete Wintrip showing just why he is in demand for the 1s.
