Ashmoor burn out after 30 seconds of brilliance.

The day started with a warning from the umpires about the conduct of players on the field and the need to control themselves and watch temper and language... we'll come back to that later on.

With a swathe of changes from the previous week the main squad were out in force trying to prove that the 13-0 whitewash of Ashmoor C earlier in the season was not a fluke. The team lined up in the same formation as they did in deservedly crushing East Devon D 11-3 in the previous league outing. Notable returnees to the squad included Jack Mugglington-brownie, Karl from the North (who had shifted his chronic case of man-flu) Toron Everett (guessing he was released from the ones for being too good) and his baby boy Jamie. They aptly filled the holes left by DJ Woody (getting a well deserved call up to the big league) and several younguns being placed on gardening leave.

Another seemingly worthless team talk was delivered by the ever enthusiastic skipper to a team that clearly were listening and paying full attention. So it was fitting that within 20 seconds of the first whistle TCS were picking the ball out of the back of the goal, that's 20 seconds from starting with possession of the ball to them scoring. 'Generous' Josh giving the ball to the opposition who hit the ball long missing the hungover stick of 'Adam's valentine' Conor Neal finding a player who knew full well that the TCS keeper loves a charge out and sat down with a cocktail and a smile as Mike slid past and he tapped home for the opener. Needless to say this raised the spirits of the travelling side to thinking they were not going to fall foul of the same result that had hit them so hard in the first half of the season. One of Ashmoor's younger players even declaring 'They ain't nothing to be scared of boys, we can do this' a double negative that would come back to haunt him within two further minutes.

Immediately TCS went on the attack and the first of many short corners was won and converted after a slick move from the four man corner attack found 'Too good' Toron in acres who flicked in to level the scores. A minute later and another routine fed to the right found Dan Adams who stroked the ball across for Bill Horner to score the second - three minutes - three goals.

By the tenth minute it was 3-1 and 'Too Good' had notched up his second which rapidly became the hat trick just moments later after more short corner success. Bill Horner ghosted to the baseline and hit in from an impossible angle to score his second and TCS As fifth of the afternoon. Safe to say the first minute embarrassment had been forgotten. The sixth goal came after some great interplay between Nice Guy' Bill Horner, 'Club Man' Dan and 'Too Good' Toron eventually resulting in a gentle tap around the corner for 'Skipper' Carter latching onto an exquisite through ball from 'Club Man' Dan.

For a glimpse of the second half see the previous report as this was almost a carbon copy. To summarise Carter got two more goals - one from Jack Muggly-Brownington and the other from a great move spear headed by 'Nice guy' Bill. Two Ashmoor players should have seen yellow cards or worse for what can legally be described as GBH - one flooring Jack Brown-Muggle-Brown from behind while he was chasing the ball (from about 2 meters away from the ball). Card crazy Ump man seeing fit to only give a stern(ish) warning and a green card. This lack of ... well... discipline (or balls) led to an identical tackle being put in on 'Nice Guy' Bill who went from hello kitty to the incredible hulk and back again in under 10 seconds much to the disappointment of 'Angry' Steve Grenfell who was clearly up for a ruck.
Again no card, no warning no sign that the average card amount of 3 was going to be achieved.

FEAR NOT, 'Club Man' Dan was soon taken out in a rugby tackle style by the keeper when completely through for a certain goal leading to... Club man picking up his... I'm guessing 15th green card of the season (apparently the god awful tackle was punishable by a simple short corner where as shouting 'surely that's got to be a card' will in fact get you a card all of your own. A flick was awarded at the other end after a Whitman slide (cocktail, smile, you know the drill) left 'Valentine Card' Conor on the line all on his own and he made a great shot stopping save - with his chest, definite flick. Terrible flick saved by Mike after originally going the wrong way a correcting then waiting....waiting... waiting and eventually stopping the ball before it could come to rest on it's own accord.

Adam finally managed to release the plastic items burning a hole in his pocket as Conor hit the ball late at a Ashmoor player and Dan had one too many shouldery tackles both earning themselves yellow cards (AGAIN!) It's nice to have an even game but can we wait till next year when skill levels will be even rather than just taking our players out of the game and leaving theirs on despite events suggesting otherwise.

Eventful game, good win, tough challenge comes next week against table topping but no longer unbeaten Chard at their place - oh dear - at this rate the cards on the jacket will be more like a cape.
