Lovely game, lovely opposition, lovely weather, lovely result.

The game day started early - for most of us... Captain Angry had arranged a meet time that we can only assume he realised was waaaay too early and decided that he would turn up 10 minutes late. Despite this, TCS still arrived 45 minutes early and began the task of clearing all the football detritus from the pitch. Unfortunately, after we had finished doing the home team's job we then had to fix our own goal which had many additional holes in it - must have a giant moth problem in Exeter.

With all the housekeeping out of the way the game could begin but not before hearing that one official had declared his hatred of Civil Service and everything we stood for... and then Conor decided to warm up his shooting stick with the other umpire stood in the goal admiring Bill 'The Hammer' Horner's net fixing handiwork.

Two things became abundantly clear early in the game: Firstly, we were going to dominate most of the game. Secondly, we were going to leave the pitch for frequent sit downs on the naughty step. Kohnar was the first to realise the wrath of our friend in pink when he questioned a decision and then followed up minutes later by ... shrugging? and collecting a green card for it. Fortunately, during his 10 minute green card sit down TCS hammered in 3 quick goals; 2 from Carter coming in off the right wing and a thunder bolt from Captain Angry who was given far too much time and space in the D.

TCS had gone back up to 11, immediately they went back to 10. Big Joe Johnson with a hand on the back and a chopping stick tackle. Again, TCS proved they play better with 10 and stuck in 2 more goals. One sublime reaction and volley from Jamie 'Twiggy' Woodland and a drag flick from Andy Carter - pure showboating!

Half time and an impressive five - nil score line reflected the dominance TCS had shown but the main message reflected a different aspect of the game - Keeping heads calm and playing our own game.

Big Joe settled the game early in the second half with a fine strike from the left edge of the D - or being honest - in cricketing terms, he did them with the slow ball. Bobbling through all defenders and the keeper, it found the bottom corner well. Further strikes from Conner and Twiggy put the score at 8-0 and TCS were cruising. Chalk up a few glaring misses from Carter, Dan, Konor, Bill, Jim, Twiggy and basically the entire team and the score could have resembled cricket more than hockey.

Cue the second half attacking moment of the game for East Devon as they pressed forward and were gifted a short corner. The first one was shut down but a stick tackle led to another. The ball bounced around and headed toward the goal. A touch from keeper Jules slowed the ball but it was still trickling towards the line. Luckily Jim Smith (The man, The legend) was in place to halt the travel of the ball before it reached the line and move away towards safety ... A whistle had blown confusing all around on both teams... A goal was given and an old fashioned spleen venting ensued. Cue two yellow cards as the Grenfell men headed for the proverbial early bath. The game finished at 8 - 1 to the travelling side and with an overall, very positive outlook for the coming weeks.

MOTM went to Twiggy for some excellent hold up play and some fine finishing. DOTD went to Stevie G for a moment of heated discussion with an umpire and inspiring his boy to follow suit.

ISCA at home next chaps in what could turn out to be the league decider!
